About the Fishery

Lovelace fishery began as an idea for diversification into the leisure industry from agriculture. Julian and Gareth Burnett had lake designs drawn up by Fish Engineering in July 2004. There was a choice of three designs and once a choice had been made an application for planning permission was applied for.

After lengthy consultation with the local borough council and the environment agency planning permission was obtained in october 2005. A grant from DEFRA was secured and work began on the 2nd november 2006.

Contractors H.I Piltcher landscaped the site and finished ground works in December 2006.
The site was now just bear soil and the lake had to be filled, luckily after a dry spell during ground works the heavens opened and we were able to start filling it using excess flood water.

After letting the water settle we were able to get in contact with Mark Simmonds and start talking about fish! The lake was stocked in February 2007 with 200 F1 C3 carp between 4-5 Ilb, 50 C4 carp averaging 9-10 Ilb from Heather Fisheries. The fish were fed while the lake matured and planting of reed beds, banks etc was under way.
The lake was ready to open in June 2007.
